TAMPARULI: Members of the Umno Youth, Wanita and Puteri movements have been urged to help make BN win the next general election and, in the process, make party still relevant to Malaysians. Making the call, Sabah Umno treasurer Datuk Hj Hajiji Hj Noor however expressed confidence that members of the three movements have what it takes to help the party win the battle.
“The three movements are akin to three pillars of a four-pillar house, the fourth pillar being Umno itself. If any of these pillars fall, the house would collapse,” he stressed while addressing the joint-opening of the AGMs of UMNO Tuaran Division’s Youth, Wanita and Puteri movements at the Tun Hamdan Hall here on Thursday. Hajiji who is also Umno Tuaran divisional head called on party members to take heed of the call by Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to intensify efforts in preparing the party for the 13th general election.
In his message in conjunction with UMNO’s 65th anniversary, Najib who is also BN chairman had asked party members to “sound the siren, beat the war drums and heat up the engines.”
“In this context, today’s AGM is very important as it may be the last before the election. I therefore urge you to from now on ‘turun padang’ and meet the people more often and try to solve their problems,” said Hajiji.
The Minister of Local Government and Housing also said party members should not let the fact that Umno Sabah made a clean sweep of the seats allocated to it in 2008, make them ‘big-headed’ and be complacent. And, he reminded them of what the party president said: “Remember that past deeds will just remain in the annals of history if we fail in this big test.”
“Apart from working doubly hard by going to the ground, Umno members must also foster unity among themselves as well as with members of other BN component parties. “We all know the consequences if we are not united when facing the enemy,” he added.
Hajiji added that it was also important for Umno members explain to the people the various government policies and programmes, especially the Prime Minister’s 1Malaysia concept and the Chief Minister’s Halatuju to make Sabah a more progressive state. And, he also advised party members to adopt the Prime Minister’s “value management’ approach which he delivered to civil servants recently. “This approach can also be adopted in our daily lives as Umno members. For example, we must ask ourselves: Do we have the correct work culture, the right political culture and the right attitude?,” he said, adding that party members should not be static in their thinking but be able to adjust according to changing times and needs.
He also reiterated Umno Tuaran’s support for the Prime Minister and Datuk Seri Musa Aman as Chief Minister and Sabah Umno chief.
