KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) vice president Datuk Herbert T Lagadan is worried about the numerous cases of slandering in Sabah. The Kadamaian assemblyman opined that this trend started after the entry of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) into Sabah.
He said this when commenting on the sketch posted by local hip-hop artist Atama Katama on the social network page Facebook which allegedly had defamed PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.
Herbert in a statement yesterday said, “with the entry of PKR and its violent culture of politics into Sabah, it is most disturbing and worrisome phenomenon to see that many individuals nowadays resort to acts of slandering others in the name of freedom of expression. “I find it very difficult to understand why so many well-educated people nowadays cannot behave decently but instead choose to indulge in character assassination. Would their next course of action be to commit murder?” the Assistant Community Service and Consumer Affairs Ministerasked.
He pointed out that in Christian teachings, slandering is a sin and within the Dusunic community, one will need to pay a ‘sogit’ if he or she had slandered someone out of hatred. “For what reason has Andrew Ambrose Mudi succumbed to slandering his own paramount leader the Huguan Siou?
“Does Andrew think that he is more perfect than Pairin or Musa or Masidi? Would his renowned and respectful late father have approved of his son’s action?” Herbert said. He also added that a civilized person would respect another’s right to have different opinion without having to resort to slandering.
