Kuala Lumpur: The Magistrate's Court here Wednesday postponed to Friday to continue to hear the private summons filed by model and television presenter Daphne Eleanor Iking's former husband, Ryan Chong Yiing Yih.
Magistrate Engku Ahmad Rashdi Engku Abdillah postponed the hearing, which had been set for Wednesday, after lawyer Jagjit Singh informed the court that his client, Darren Choy Khin Ming, could not attend the hearing because he was ill. Wednesday was the second time Choy, a former Adidas managing director, failed to be in court for the hearing. The first was last Jan 5, also for the some reason.
Jagjit Singh produced a medical certificate issued to Choy by a private clinic in Damansara.
However, lawyer Wong Kian Kheong, who represented Chong, objected to it and wanted the court to verify the matter. "He should produce a medical certificate from a government hospital or health clinic," he added.
Chong, 32, filed the private summons against Choy, 45, for enticing Iking, 31, with the intention of having intercourse with the woman at The Plaza condominium, Jalan Wan Kadir, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, between July 2007 and September 2008.
Choy is charged under Section 498 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both, upon conviction. Iking and Chong were married on Jan 27, 2007 in Bali, Indonesia, and the couple has a daughter. - Bernama
