Syed Hamid Albar said Umno needs a physological warfare task team to weed out baseless allegations from the opposition against the party and Barisan Nasional.Interesting indeed, and true enough, Umno needs such a taskforce more badly to defend itself and the leaders against unscrupulous remarks, allegations and unfounded accusations made by its own members - 98 per cent of whom are the Malays.I may sound a bit too much but as a Malay myself, I am well-versed about my own people, especially when they join a political party like Umno. What they like most? Nothing else than listen to rumours, add some weight to it and dissemminate it to others. Its a sad thing that 'umpat-keji', 'memfitnah', 'memburuk-burukkan pemimpin', 'menghasut' and 'hasad dengki' are their dominant characters.
When someone says a leader buys a Proton Perdana for RM100,000 through a bank loan, the guy who listens will tell others that the car was purchased cash! Then the story will be rehatched and branched out like 'it wasnt a Perdana... it was a Merc instead... or a BMW 520i or a Lexus worth few hundred thousand ringgit...' So much so, the story will be twisted in such a way to punish the leader and tarnish his good image. The Malays are good at this. After more than 50 years of Independence, nothings changed. The Malays, too cannot be criticised much. Why? It will draw anger and in some instances will demoralise them. This is the actual facts.
In Umno itself, leaders and members alike are so fond of making up 'stories' about others. At grassroot level, its even worse! Just because someone borrowed money from the bank to invest, he became the centre of despicable remarks. 'This guy got a few billion ringgits in oversea banks!'When we talk about proof or any tangible evident, those who scorned him had none to show. They will say that they heard about it... hearsay! They've got nothing better to do but to find other people's fault. The Malays have forgotten that they are still lacking and lagging behind, economically.Have you heard about this? 'Bagi orang Melayu ni, kalau ekonomi tak naik, takpa. Kalau taraf hidup tak naik, takpa... tapi kalau benda tu tak naik, tak boleh!'. Who started this, nobody knows but it suits them well. No wonder too many 'ubat kuat' industries are given licences to operate.
Run-up to the general assemby, people on the streets are already preparing 'hot stuffs' to tell others during the gathering on 24-29 March. After travelling to eight states, most of the talks were focussed on candidates for top posts. It seemed that nobody is 'clean' to them. Each and every aspirant has a 'bad track record'. But why in the first place you nominated them? May as well you wait for angels to come down from the sky and make them your party leaders!Syed Hamid may propose this to his boss and to the party. Forget about the bad mouths of the opposition. That's what they are there for and they are very good at it.
In the States where BN is the opposition, they play the same role like the Pakatan Rakyat in Dewan Rakyat. So, focus on the party.I would like to take this opportunity to write more about the Malays bad characters. Call in the curtain raiser for Umno General Assembly or whatever you prefer but my intention is clear. I want the Malays to be more matured and get rid of this bad habits. For the Malays to excel, Umno leaders and members should cooperate in a more positive manner, transparent, dare to form a new leadership and put aside any differences.I deserve to speak for my fellow Malays and my party. Our biggest task is to get rid of the enemies within, not from outside!
