Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is harbouring high hopes that more Umno leaders from the State will be appointed full Ministers in the new Federal Cabinet after their strong performance in the party elections at the just-concluded Umno General Assembly.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said Sabah's representations at the Umno top hierarchy comprise Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal (vice-president), Datuk Seri Musa Aman (Supreme Council), Datuk Lajim Ukin (Supreme Council), Datuk Bung Moktar Radin (Supreme Council) and Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin (Puteri chief). The others are Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun and Datuk Armani Mahiruddin (both Wanita Exco), Mohd Gasing Saling and Jamawi Jaafar (both Youth Exco) and Dg Maimunah Sidek (Puteri Exco).
Musa, who is also Sabah Umno Liaison Chief, said this when met at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport's Terminal Two in Tanjung Aru here, Sunday, upon his return from campaigning for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Bukit Gantang by-election in Perak. "This is the hope of the State and Sabah Umno (that more State Umno leaders be appointed full Ministers in the Federal Government)," he said.
However, he said Sabah Umno was leaving the matter to the wisdom of the party's leadership. He said the big number of Sabah Umno leaders at the party's national level has given them the zest to work even harder to strengthen the party. Musa said the faith and trust to them was not only the aspiration of Sabah Umno but also party members throughout the country.
Nevertheless, he said the positions are not a privilege or advantage but rather a trust that must be fulfilled by the State Umno, which is known for its strength, by winning in the election 100 per cent.
"This is why they said they appreciate Sabah Umno's contribution to the party and the Barisan Nasional in general," he said. In this respect, Musa said he expected to see the aspirations of Sabahans being more vocally raised at the Federal level. On the State Umno line-up, he said there could be some changes in order to strengthen the party. On the Bukit Selambau and Bukit Gantang by-elections, he said Sabah BN was helping out. The State Umno is led by Sipitang MP-cum-Sabah Umno information chief Datuk Sapawi Ahmad.
