Kota Kinabalu: Former Pensiangan MP Datuk Bernard Maraat said he is sticking to Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) despite "invitations" from other parties including the opposition.
"That (approached by other parties) I cannot deny, but I am adamant Élet's see what will happen tomorrow, if there is going to be a by-election (Pensiangan parliamentary) then the leadership will have to look at it very seriously.
"Presently I am still very much a BN man. But politics is dynamic, it is not static and not frozen," he told reporters at a Chinese New Year open house held by the Inanam Chinese Kapitan at his residence, Tuesday.
Maraat, who is now PBS Liawan branch chief, said he is aware of speculations about him joining another party and hoped this will stop. Nevertheless, he said he remains open to any possibility. "Obviously we have to remain open (to anything). The political ideology, whatever that we follow, cannot be static.
"What is going to happen tomorrow is still a question. But let's look at today, today I am still with PBS," said the former PBRS Deputy President who quit the party before last year's general election due to disagreement with party President Tan Sri Joseph Kurup on the choice of candidate for the Pensiangan seat.
Kurup who is currently Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development took over from Maraat and won the seat uncontested amid a brawl at the nomination centre in the process.
The Kota Kinabalu High Court later declared the election result null and void and he is presently awaiting the outcome of his appeal filed at the Federal High Court.
"If the BN wishes there should be a different candidate, let's be open to it.
Because there are a lot of speculations going on whether the BN can stand thereÉbut this does not mean I can say I become the candidate, as there are probably others and it would be up to BN leadership," said Maraat.
Betul tidak Datuk and Tan Sri...???
