Kota Kinabalu: Former Kiulu PBS chief Sindin Ranggangon said the statement by PBS Deputy President Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili that he would step down after his term expires should send a clear signal to party President Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan to pass the baton to another leader.
He said Pairin should emulate former Umno President Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who refused to budge from his decision to step down despite widespread calls for the former Prime Minister to stay on.
He also said the defeat of MIC President Datuk Samy Vellu by a virtually unknown opponent in the recent general election should serve as a wake-up call to the Huguan Siou.
"He should gracefully pass the baton to an equally ready and capable leader to bring the party to greater heights instead of staying in the name of the delegates' wish," he said in a statement, Thursday.
Meanwhile, he reiterated that under his leadership, Kiulu PBS had never rejected any application from individuals and groups to join the party.
Citing professionals like educator Dr James Ongkili Jr., Bernama Sabah bureau chief Newmon Tibin and Harie Buyug, he said they had all been duly processed during his term.
To Pairin's claims that he failed to process the application of New Straits Times Sabah Bureau chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, Sindin claimed that he had, on several occasions, invited him to join PBS. He said Pairin's statement was aimed at tarnishing his image.
On the 3,000 applications from former PBS defectors such as Datuk Louis Rampas who left to join PBRS, he said the forms were handed to former Kiulu PBS chief Yunof Maringking.
But due to many parts in the application forms being incomplete, the forms were returned to the respective branches.
Unfortunately, only a few of the forms have been re-submitted, he said.
"After we took over the division in September 2005, we worked very hard to reorganise the branches without a single sen from the party leadership," he claimed.
On the disbanding of the Kiulu division recently, he said it was necessary since more than two thirds of the branches had failed to conduct their respective annual general meeting despite notices sent to them. The reason, he said, was due to lack of membership at the branch level.
Sindin also claimed he spent his own money, including sacrificing his time and energy as well as relinquishing his post in the government service just to strengthen the Kiulu division. However, he said the party leadership did not appreciate his sacrifices.
Sindin, who resigned from the party recently, had stated his intention to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat.
Macam inipun adakah???
